Road safety is a shared responsibility. Learn how to file a road watch report and traffic concern report to the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and help us keep our roads safe.

File a Road Watch Report

You can file a Road Watch Report about any incident in Halton region involving a specific vehicle if:

  • You have a Licence Plate Number for the vehicle; and
  • No contact was made between you and the other driver.

When to file a Road Watch Report

Here are a few examples of incidents that you could file a Road Watch Report for:

  • A vehicle running a stop sign or red light
  • A vehicle following too closely
  • Aggressive, careless or dangerous driving
  • Unsafe passing
  • A vehicle driving in the middle of a roadway
  • Excessive speeding by a vehicle
  • A vehicle speeding in a Community Safety Zone
  • A school bus violation
  • A distracted driver (failure to use hands-free device)
  • A vehicle that fails to yield to a pedestrian

What happens after I submit a Road Watch Report?

A police officer will review each Road Watch Report that we receive. If deemed appropriate, we may send a letter to the registered vehicle owner encouraging all drivers to drive in a safe and responsible manner.

You can file a Traffic Concern Report about a persistent traffic concern at a specific location within Halton Region.

We will review and investigate each Traffic Concern Report. If a report isn't complete, we will not accept or review the report.

When to file a Traffic Concern Report

You can file a Traffic Concern Report for:

  • An intersection at which vehicles persistently run a stop sign or red light;
  • A stretch of roadway that has is persistent and excessive speeding or racing;
  • A location where there are frequent school bus violations; and
  • A location where vehicles frequently fail to yield for pedestrians or school crossing guards

Traffic report exclusions

The following highways are excluded because they fall under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP):

  • Queen Elizabeth Way
  • Highway 403
  • Highway 407
  • Highway 401
