Twice yearly, local youth are selected to participate in Halton Regional Police Service's (HRPS) 11-week Police Ethnic and Cultural Education Youth Leadership Program (PEACE).

PEACE students work closely with members of the HRPS to improve their cultural proficiency, communication, and leadership skills.

PEACE Program Eligibility

To be considered for the Halton Regional Police Service PEACE Youth Leadership Program, candidates must:

  • Have an interest in policing and diversity
  • Be a registered high school student in Halton in good standing
  • Reside in the Region of Halton
  • Pass reference, employment and criminal background checks
  • Be willing to obtain six (6) hours of recognized community work outside program hours (must be approved by PEACE instructors and obtained while the PEACE Program is in session)

PEACE Program Areas of Focus

PEACE Youth Leadership Program participants will participate in several activities involving the following areas:

  • A day in the life of a Police Officer
  • Leadership and planning for your future
  • Black History Education
  • Indigenous Awareness
  • Tour For Humanity provided by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre
  • Hands-on demonstrations and scenarios presented by our Training Bureau and Emergency Services Unit

PEACE Session Dates

Participants in the PEACE Youth Leadership Program must be able to attend at least 9 of the 11 sessions listed below. The sessions will be held in-person at HRPS Headquarters, 2485 North Service Rd. W. Oakville unless otherwise indicated. Three of the sessions will be three hours in length and participants will be notified ahead of time.

  • Thursday, February 1, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

  • Thursday, February 22, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, February 29, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 7, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 21, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 28, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 4, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
