About the Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI)
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, offers the YIPI Program as part of our ongoing strategy to address the growing needs of local youth.
YIPI's goal is to give young people an opportunity to develop job skills while enhancing police and community relations.
The YIPI initiative is an eight-week, paid summer employment opportunity for youth between the ages of 15 to 18 who reflect the cultural diversity of Halton region. Youth must be attending a secondary school program and reside in Halton. The program provides students with approximately 35 working hours per week. Over the course of the eight weeks, youth interact with, and learn about, the many aspects of policing, have the opportunity to serve their community, and enhance their leadership and teamwork skills. Ultimately, participating students will learn valuable life and employment skills that will benefit them for many years to come.
If you know a youth with leadership potential, including those who may see themselves as experiencing barriers to personal growth and success, we encourage them to submit their name for consideration.
Goal and Mandate of YIPI
As noted above, the goal of YIPI is to give young people an opportunity to develop job skills, while enhancing police and community relations.
Its mandate is:
- To provide a safe and positive summer employment opportunity for youth that is reflective of the cultural diversity of the community.
