An opportunity for youth to share their unique ideas and perspectives on policing in Halton Region
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) knows the impact youth have in the community, not only among their peer groups but in using their voices to bring about positive change in areas that matter to them.
In recognition of this, and as part of our broader youth engagement strategy, our Service created its Youth Advisory Council (YAC) in 2021. This youth-driven committee, comprised of area high school students from a wide range of backgrounds, acts as an advisory board to the HRPS. It provides ideas and support to youth-focused initiatives, and helps ensure the needs of young people in Halton Region are considered.
Why Join YAC?
- To work as a team and offer insight to HRPS on policies, events, and programs impacting local youth.
- To provide recommendations on initiatives to better support youth and the community.
- To identify and counsel HRPS on opportunities for youth to engage with the police service.
- To support HRPS events and programming that align with YAC’s mandate.
- To volunteer within the community and the HRPS.
- To advocate for the Region of Halton’s diverse youth population.
- To make new friends and be a voice for youth in Halton Region.
- Please note that YAC members are expected to commit to a 2 hour meeting in the evening once a month from September-June, with the added ability to participate in any projects the YAC decides to do.
If you’re a youth, aged 13-18, who wants to make a positive impact on policing in the community, we encourage you to apply to be a YAC member.
